Gemini Gems to Skills Migration Guide
Google has officially announced that Gemini Gems are being retired and replaced by a new architecture called Skills.
If you have spent recent months developing custom Gems for lesson design, departmental feedback rubrics, or administrative workflows across your school or Multi-Academy Trust, do not panic; and do not delete your work. Your pedagogical engineering, system instructions, and policy documents remain fully forward-compatible.
In this video, Stephen breaks down why Google is making this transition, demystifies the difference between the interface “container” and your underlying pedagogical logic, and provides a walkthrough showing how to migrate your Gems to Skills in under two minutes.
Key Transition Deadlines at a Glance:
- Personal Google Accounts: Sunset begins November 2026.
- Google Workspace Studio Flows: Legacy “Ask a Gem” steps stop running in March 2027 across all domains.
- Google Workspace for Education: Institutional Gems remain active until June 2027.

Institutional Intelligence Hub
Information in schools is often “liquid”; it flows through emails, PDFs, and spreadsheets, but rarely settles where we need it most. As school leaders, we don’t need more data – we need synthesis.
