Stephen is the creator behind one of the UK’s most successful educational YouTube channels. After 12 years of building a global community of over 114,000 subscribers, Stephen is now pivoting his focus to solve the most urgent challenge in modern education: The sustainable use of AI in the classroom.
Originally known to millions as MusicTheoryGuy, Stephen is now the AI Theory Guy. He applies the same pedagogical precision that helped thousands of musicians to the world of Artificial Intelligence, helping teachers move past the “hype” to master the structured logic of AI workload reduction.
Launched in late 2025, AI Theory Guy is a YouTube series and resource hub dedicated to teaching educators how to automate the “mechanical” parts of their roles.
Rather than chasing quick fixes, Stephen focuses on “AI Theory”; teaching teachers how to build custom Gemini Gems and structured prompts that provide professional-grade results in seconds.
In May 2022, Stephen was awarded the YouTube Silver Creator Play Button for achieving a subscriber count of more than 100,000. This milestone placed his channel among the most subscribed teacher-led channels in the UK, a testament to his ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging.
You can read more about this achievement and Stephen’s journey in the Sheffield Star newspaper.
Stephen’s educational videos have been embedded into leading websites and recommended by newspapers, online resource guides, and printed GCSE textbooks worldwide.
His work has a history of reaching unexpected places; his most memorable “thank you” came from a rehabilitation course at a prison on the Caribbean island of Saint Kitts, where his videos were being used to help inmates gain new qualifications. It is this commitment to accessibility and impact that drives his new focus on AI.
All of Stephen’s Music Theory videos are available on YouTube under his alter-ego MusicTheoryGuy.
A finalist in the 2014 Music Teacher of the Year awards, musictheoryvideos.com brings together all of Stephen’s YouTube videos and presents them in a handy grade/study order.
